I oppose a regional jail for Leonardtown or moving jail to Hayden Farm

Dan Morris at the Golden Beach Citizens Association meeting held on Nov. 5, 2009 at the Golden Beach substation of the Mechanicsville VFD. Morris, Larry Jarboe, Rich Johnson and Randy Guy all spoke about providing county government which will hold the line on higher taxes and provide close scrutiny to how tax funds are spent with the priority on funding schools, public safety and roads.
The question of the jail being located in Leonardtown has come up as
I travel around the county.
Since the jail is already located in Leonardtown, it would cost millions of dollars to move it and that would be out of the question.
The jail should be located close to both the District and the Circuit Courts because of the constant movement of inmates and attorneys.
I do not believe that a large prison system type jail should be built in or around Leonardtown.
The current jail needs to be expanded and I do not believe that will have a negative impact on the Leonardtown area.
The improvements to the current jail will be modest in cost and size in comparison to the 13 million dollar mega library that was proposed to be built on the Hayden Farm, which is also no place for a new regional jail. I would strongly oppose a regional jail being placed in or near Leonardtown.
